Nuclear Waste

I think we should be investing our time and resources into trying to find a fail-safe way to get our nuclear waste into space. It seems to be the only way to completely dispose of the waste and not have later consequences. The only problem is that if there was some error in the actual transportation, the entire world would be at extreamly high risk. Until we get to the point where there is absolutley no way we could mess up the actual moving of the waste, I fear that there will never be a way to totally rid ourselves of this problem. Only put it off for later generations.

The point was made in the video that given our track record in the space program, mistakes would be made inevitably. This would result in terrible radioactive waste spill. But hopefully, these mistakes would be reduced considerably if we were trying to transport nuclear waste versus people and scientific equipment, which keep in mind also needs to return to Earth safely. More likely than not, transporting nuclear waste permanently into space versus shuttling people would be less accident prone. I agree with you, I think that it is a definite possibility for figuring out what to do with all the nuclear waste.

I agree with this. I think we should keep using nuclear energy, but be careful about it. I think by the time the stored radioactive materials become dangerous, we will have figured out a way to deal with them.
